A. Prof. Deependra Parajuli, PhD
Director

At Tribhuvan University, we stand at a defining moment — a time when education must not only inform minds but also transform lives. With over 450,000 students across 62 constituent campuses and more than 1,080 affiliated colleges, our diversity demands structured engagement to ensure that every student’s voice, talent, and aspiration find meaningful expression.

The Student Welfare and Sports Directorate is at the forefront of this mission — addressing challenges such as fragmented participation in sports, arts, and cultural activities, reactive welfare services, political dynamics, and the persistent issue of brain drain. To transform these challenges into opportunities, we are establishing Student Welfare Cells/FSUs at each campus, launching leadership and wellness programs, organizing annual inter-campus festivals in arts, sports, and innovation, and building national platforms for skill development, competitions, research, and sports entrepreneurship. Initiatives such as University Sports Leagues (VC CUP, University Sports, etc.), Research and Innovation Fairs, Volunteer Programs, and Comprehensive Counseling Services further empower our students to achieve excellence beyond the classroom.

We are also implementing the vision of Campus-to-Community Transformation, where students translate knowledge into real-world impact through applied learning, social entrepreneurship projects, environmental initiatives, and health outreach campaigns. Extracurricular participation is integrated into the academic framework through credit-based recognition, thereby fostering employability, innovation, and civic responsibility. Programs such as the School of Applied Sports Science and the National Cadet Corps (NCC), run in collaboration with the Armed Forces, cultivate discipline, leadership, and holistic development among our youth.

In addition, Tribhuvan University proudly aligns itself with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the National Sports Council of Nepal to prepare and send students to prestigious University Olympiads and international competitions. Through systematic selection, training, and talent development programs, our Directorate identifies outstanding athletes from across campuses, providing them the opportunity to represent Nepal and Tribhuvan University on the global stage. This not only enhances individual excellence but also strengthens Nepal’s academic and athletic reputation in the international arena.

Inclusive governance remains a cornerstone of our approach. We foster structured engagement with Free Student Unions, ensure transparent elections, and establish Student Mediation Councils to address disputes constructively. Neutral participation through clubs, committees, and service initiatives promotes leadership grounded in ethics, fairness, and service to society.

Guided by our core values — “Discipline and Dynamism in Learning and Research — A Foundation for Overall Developmental March,” “Clean Character, Clean Campus, Clean University, Clean Country,” and “Peace, Friendship, and Unity — Our Dignity” — we envision Tribhuvan University as a community of innovative, disciplined, socially responsible, and globally competitive students. Together, we will build not just a university of learning, but a university of life, where every student flourishes — intellectually, morally, and humanely.
